Stalingrad - Memories and Reassessments

Joachim Wieder (Author) and Heinrich Graf Von Einsiedel (Co-author), Helmut Bogler (Translator) Published 1995 by Arms and Armour Press Hardback with dust wrapper 320 pages (not illustrated) ISBN 1-85409-303-7

A survivor of Stalingrad’s personal account of Hitler's foolhardy offensive which culminated in one of the most awesome battles and finally one of the most dreadful defeats of WWII. Against the advice of his senior officers, Hitler decreed that Stalingrad must be taken and he threw a quarter of a million men into a doomed campaign in which over half were killed and his proud Sixth Army annihilated. This is a stunning, impactful review now regarded as a classic.

Nazi Women - Hitler's Seduction of a Nation

Cate Haste First edition 2001 by Channel 4 Books Hardback with dust wrapper 256 pages (8 pages b/white photos) ISBN 0-7522-1936-7

An often shocking look at the role ordinary German women played by conforming to the Nazi ideal and forming the backbone of the regime. Women were wooed by the Nazis, and presented with a reassuringly female identity as bearers of culture for the next generation; motherhood was their highest duty and their housewife role recognised as a profession. But as war loomed, events took a darker turn and German women became complicit in a chain of events even more shameful. While Hitler transfixed vast crowds, he could also enthral women on a personal level. However, his intimate affairs were troubled and controversial. The incestuous arrangement with his niece Geli, who later committed suicide, one of several women known to have been intimate with Hitler who were driven to despair. Finally, his liaison with Eva Braun who he kept firmly in the background, having declared himself "married to Germany", resisting marriage until the day before their deaths.

Hitler's Children

Guido Knopp Translated into English 2002 Published by Sutton Publishing Hardback with dust wrapper 290 pages (16 pages b/white photos) ISBN 0-7509-2732-1

Hitler's Third Reich was responsible for the betrayal and exploitation of an entire generation of young people. From toddlers upwards, they were completely monopolised by the state and indoctrinated into becoming willing recruits into Nazism and fanatical racism. They were also relied upon as enthusiastic support forces, obliging informers, and willing cannon-fodder. Guido Knopp presents the life-stories of many of "Hitler's Children" through shocking personal accounts of former Hitler Youth members. With sources of information including hitherto unpublished evidence of how Hitler gained power over his young people, Knopp has painted a disturbing picture of how the minds of a whole generation of German youngsters were poisoned.
