A safe pair of hands, Ted studied his craft at the Manchester High School of Art and the Manchester Regional College of Art before embarking on a career in publishing. Twenty years as studio head for the Cheshire Life, Lancashire Life and Yorkshire Life magazine group before creating Artbox in 1986, a design and illustration studio devoted to painting and photography.
